SUPERDISC) CD Sound Surround Definition High Music (Monster Company Loves Genius Charles, Ray

0ur opinion:

:
Genius Loves Company is great in stereo but it’s incredible in surround sound, the music opens up and the dynamic among the artists is more transparent, more alive. You hear Billy Preston’s Hammond B3 in its own channel. There is an eighty-piece orchestra, a gospel choir and a horn section. ln surround sound you can hear each instrument. Because there is more space in a surround field, you can hear the trumpet and the trombone separately-with each instrument occupying its own space in stereo it’s all pressed together. ln surround sound it’s larger-than-life. Genius Loves Company won eight Grammy Awards, joining the rarefied company of Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Santana’s Superstition. lt is the first winner of the 'Best Surround Mix' Grammy, and it’s easy to understand why. ln surround Sound you hear more character and passion. lt allows you to explore the relationships between the artists. You really feel like you are in the company of Ray Charles. This SuperDisc also includes the original stereo recording for your CD player.

Buyer Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - * Very old Ray whistling through his dentures as he sung. ...
l am a big Ray Charles fan but this disc is terrible. Ray doesnt sound like himself, just a bad old voice trying to get the magic back, unsuccessfully. He was off key and failed to reach the higher octaves. The mixing of the music and solos is also quite poor. l listened to the first song and started searching FF for a better song,it wasn't on this disc. So sad but true. Monster Music did Ray an injustice by making this disc. They should have used tapes from his younger superstar recordings and overlayed them on this disc. Jamie Fox would have sounded better. l was so looking forward to this superdisc but stuff happens. Don't buy it or you'll be sorry. P.S. Johnny Mathis did sound good.

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Monster sounds better
l owned the SA-CD Version and liked that a lot, especially the surround sound. But the Monster Version does this much better.
And you'll have a bouns track, too. And some MP3 versions. And an iPod versions. And ... even the price is lower.

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful CD
This High Def Surround Sound CD Superdisc is great. You can really appreciate the fullness of the sound with this process.

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Surrounded by Genius ...
l'm fascinated by anything in surround-sound but the high-definition process used by Monster for the Superdiscs is phenomenal, putting you right there in the recording booth with the artists.

Highly recommended and versatile package includes Dolby and DTS tracks plus something not found elsewhere: digital files for your MP3 player in Dolby Headphone Surround.

You will not find better sound technology than this. A highly recommended grammy-winning album, "kicked up a notch".

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Simply fantastic

The word Baraka means "blessing" in several languages; watching this film, the viewer is blessed with a dazzling barrage of images that transcend language. Filmed in 24 countries and set to an ever-changing global soundtrack, the movie draws some surprising connections between various peoples and the spaces they inhabit, whether that space is a lonely mountaintop or a crowded cigarette factory. Some of these attempts at connection are more successful than others: for instance, an early sequence segues between the daily devotions of Tibetan monks, Orthodox Jews, and whirling dervishes, finding more similarity among these rituals than one might expect. And there are other amazing moments, as when sped-up footage of a busy Hong Kong intersection reveals a beautiful symmetry to urban life that could only be appreciated from the perspective of film. The lack of context is occasionally frustrating--not knowing where a section was filmed, or the meaning of the ritual taking place--and some of the transitions are puzzling. However, the DVD includes a short behind-the-scenes featurette in which cinematographer Ron Fricke (Koyaanisqatsi) explains that the effect was intentional: "It's not where you are that's important, it's what's there." And what's here, in Baraka, is a whole world summed up in 104 minutes. --Larisa Lomacky Moore

The tricky topic of interracial romance gets a sexy, charming, and unexpectedly realistic treatment in Something New. Kenya (Sanaa Lathan, Out of Time, Alien Vs. Predator), a successful accountant, gets set up on a blind date with Brian (Simon Baker, The Ring Two)--only to discover that he's white, leading her to cut the date short. At a party, Kenya admires the garden and gets introduced to the landscape architect: Brian. Thus begins a bumpy but increasingly sparky relationship, despite opposition from Kenya's friends and family, as well as Kenya and Brian's own internal resistance. Make no mistake, Something New is a mainstream romantic comedy, with ridiculously attractive people grappling with problems that get solved with just a little too much ease--but along the way, Kriss Turner's script, Sanaa Hamri's direction, and Baker's and especially Lathan's performances ground the movie in something resembling the real world. Kenya's and Brian's emotional terrain has a genuine texture to it; the rhythm of the dialogue and the visual pacing allows their characters to breathe and become more genuine and vivid than your standard rom-com lovers. The strong supporting cast--including Alfre Woodard (Crooklyn), Donald Faison (Scrubs), Mike Epps (Next Friday), and Blair Underwood (Full Frontal)--doesn't hurt. But Lathan owns the movie; this actress deserves true stardom. --Bret Fetzer
