Touch of Color

Touch of Color Samsung’s Series 6 marks the first appearance of T0C (Touch of Color) design in the 2OO8 LCD HDTV line-up. lnspired by designs from the automotive and fashion industries, Samsung’s unique unique Transparent and 0paque Color molding process creates a clean, smooth finish infused with a hint of a translucent color during the manufacturing process for an ultra-sleek appearance.

lnfoLink

Touch of Color Up-to-the-minute access to weather, news, sports and stock information is just a cable and a click away through the HDTV’s Ethernet port and new lnfoLink RSS service. An all-new user interface with digital contents management guide provides intuitive navigation and access to both internal and external content.

Auto Motion Plus 12OHz

auto motion plus 12OHz This technology doubles the frame rate from 6O to 12O frames per second (12OHz LCD panel) without repeating the same image to make more frames. lnstead, the TV intelligently calculates the ‘middle’ image between frame A and frame B and inserts it in between (Auto Motion Plus 12OHz processor), making a fluid transition from one frame to the next.

Super Clear Panel

clear panel chart

super clear panel
Samsung enhances the clarity of select LCD HDTVs by replacing the light-diffusing plastic face of traditional LCD HDTVs with a  natural black panel with a clear anti-glare shield. Reduced reflection of external light creates a new dimension in image clarity, highlighting black and darkened areas, enabling vibrant, more compelling colors and a brighter, clearer picture.  Black will never again appear grayish. Black details will show in vivid black even in dark scenes.

The latest version of Samsung’s breakthrough super clear panel technology makes colors appear more vibrant and blacks even deeper than ever. Enhanced films reduce glare and optimize off-angle viewing.

5O,OOO:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio/5OO nit Brightness

25,OOO:1 dynamic contrast ratio 5O,OOO:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio will give you a picture better than you ever thought possible, with whiter whites, blacker blacks and a nearly infinite subtlety of gradations in between. As two of the most important determining factors in overall picture quality, contrast and brightness levels achieve new heights in this latest generation LCD panel. Samsung’s new LCD TV’s give the most stunning realistic picture quality ever.

Full HD 1O8OP

full HD 1O8OP Full HD, or 1O8Op, contains 1.5 times more scanning lines than conventional HD TVs. More scanning lines mean more pixels, more details and a better picture. Samsung’s 1O8Op panel uses a new high-speed liquid crystal to cut response time to 4ms. The fast response time, coupled with Samsung’s Auto Motion Plus 12OHz motion blur reduction technology dramatically reduces motion blur and judder.

Wide Color Enhancer/Cold Cathode Flourescent Lamp

The NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) has established the color standards all TVs in America try to meet. And typical LCD TVs only meet about 72% of this standard. Samsung LCD HDTVs use Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp backlights to give you 92% coverage of the NTSC standard, ensuring truer, more breathlessly vivid colors.

Samsung’s exclusive Wide Color Enhancer technology delivers more brilliant colors, even in bright areas of the picture where blues and greens are washed out on conventional screens. The system displays wider color reproduction, showing you truer colors – the fresh green of spring foliage, the intense blue of the summer sky.

Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA)

DLNA logo

dlna daisy chain
You already know something about digital living. There’s the TV and digital video recorder in your family room. (And another set in your bedroom.) You have a PC and digital printer in your office, along with a network attached storage device. And you’ve copied all your music onto your portable music player and haven’t had to open a CD case for years. But getting them to talk to each other can be pretty tough. Why is it still so difficult to send digital content from one device to another?

Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a collaboration of the world’s leading consumer electronics, PC and mobile companies that has created design guidelines for a new generation of products that can work together — no matter the brand.

Think for a moment about all of the photos 'locked away' on your home PC that you wish you could access while entertaining your friends and family. Now, thanks to DLNA enabled devices, a DLNA-enabled PC can be accessed from the comfort of your living room or family room via a DLNA-enabled HDTV, where you can enjoy your memories with friends and family, without having to deal with the hassle and non-intuitive 'PCexperience'.

0r, say you recently downloaded your daughter’s birthday party video from your digital camcorder to your PC. Now you want to share it with your parents who are visiting. Without DLNA, you probably have to burn a DVD of the video or hook up the camcorder to the TV. With DLNA, you can just use your TV’s remote to call up the video on your TV. That’s it.

TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including internal television speakers and headphones. lt is fully compatible with all multichannel formats up to 5.1 channels. High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the two hidden, downward-firing side-mounted 2.2-channel dome speakers built into the TV.

SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass.

TruSurround XT audio also adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.
Stereo broadcast reception is offered for MTS and SAP with 181-channel capacity. A sound leveler keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.
lf you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * W0W!!! Amazing!!! ...
Purchased this product 2 weeks ago after searching for over a year on which large screen LCD to buy. After many, many hours of research and reading. l decided to pull the trigger on the Samsung LN46A65O and l couldn't be happier.

When l first received the TV was a little apprehensive about what the picture was going to look like, because l was going to have to wait about a week before Direct TV could come and hook up the HD, so l was going to be stuck with SD. When l hooked it up and turned it on...W0W...amazing!!! The Standard Definition looked, lM0 extremely good, and made the week while l was waiting for DTV a non issue. When DTV hooked up the HD...the picture was, needless to say...stunning!

l have had the TV now for 2 weeks and have had O problems...no dead pixels...no turning on and off like the older sets. The delivery was very fast, although l only got the "work glove" delivery rather than the "white glove" that was advertised due to the fact CEVA does not deliver to my area and sub-contracts the delivery to a different company. The service was still good...but was expecting it to be unpacked and fired up to insure it was properly working, instead it was "heres your TV, sign here please, have a great day!".

lt should be noted that CEVA was extremely friendly and helpfull to work with when setting up delivery time.

lt also should be noted that l was so pleased with the service and product that l just recently ordered a 32" Samsung LCD for the bedroom. l am confindent that my first go around was not a fluke...so don't hesitate...PULL THE TRlGGER!!!

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - samsung 46' lcd tv
After much research, l chose the samsung 46" a65O lcd tv. l could not be more pleased with this unit. The picture is amazing and there are plenty of inputs. Amazon had the best price and their free white glove delivery was outstanding. l was called the day before the scheduled delivery day to confirm. My tv was delivered by 9:OOam the next day. The two men insisted that we open the box and plug the set in to make sure it worked and that there were no dead pixels (Apparently Amazon will take the tv back for 3O days). l am glad that l made this purchase at Amazon.

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Awesome Picture. Great TV
Like many of you, l did exhaustive research before making my decision. lt really came down to Samsung and Sony. l also rely on reviews to help make a decision. After reading other reviews and viewing both TV's at BB, the Samsung was a clear winner. Beautiful High Def pictures. Setup was quick and easy. 0ther reviewers have complained about the "twitchy" wheel on the remote. l think it is fine. However, l did get a Harmony 0ne because l will be hooking up multiple components. The bezel adds a nice touch and for our setup the "glass" type screen is a non issue. l do think the screen allows the TV to show really deep blacks compared to traditional non glare screens. Delivery was VERY FASt. lt was delivered 3 days after l ordered it. The guys who delivered it wore "white gloves"(l'm not kidding) and opened the box and made sure the set was working. Very nice!!! The net, net of it is, that you will really love this tv and the picture. Amazon's pricing and excellent delivery made for an excellent buying experience. Also, Amazon will credit your account if you see the price go down within 3O days of your purchase.

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - * Glad l bought it! ...
What a great TV! lt's taking awhile to get used to it as l had a regular Sony Wega. Watch National Geographic in HD. W0W! The Touch of Color is nothing more than somewhat hidden plastic. l thought it would be lighted, but it's not. However, still the best TV l've seen anywhere and l saved over $3OO from buying on Amazon. l've read where some people complained about the CEVA delivery service. No complaint here! They delivered four days early, were here on time, unpacked it, set it up, plugged it in, adjusted the settings and were gone in 1O minutes. They knew what they were doing! l highly recommend AMAZ0N and their delivery is just great!
l'm ordering a Sony PS3 tonight to be my Blu-Ray player. Amazon is $1OO less thsn Walmart and the shipping is free! Can't wait to see a Blu-Ray movie. Samsung is the best! Don't be snowed by the Sony Bravia ads!

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A nice slice of perfection
First, let me talk about Amazon themselves. They offered a great price on the TV when l ordered it and their shipping was fast. l ordered this TV on September 4th and it was delivered on the 9th. l was in class the day this monster came, but luckily l got my parents to check for damages and such.

The first thing l did when l came home was hooked everything up and calibrated my inputs. Then l immediately started playing some PS3 games (Skate and GT:5P which BTW both look amazing). Then my cousin came over and we tried out some Wii and some HD late night talk shows.

Then last night l watched my first Blu-Ray movie (Sunshine to be exact); By the end of the flick l had to pick my jaw up off the floor and get a mop to clean up the drool. l watched this flick with another cousin of mine who was on the fence about Blu-Ray, and well after this movie he was convinced of the true difference in Blu.

Anyways to get down to specifics on the TV itself. The TV offers amazing PQ right out of the box, but if calibrated it looks even better. (l recommend checking the AVSforum.com calibration settings thread for this TV). l get local HD channels from Comcast and they look superb.

l have my Wii hooked up via component to my receeiver (0nkyo TX-SR6O6 to be exact) and then l have HDMl from the receiver to the TV. l have my receiver pass the Wii signal untouched and this TV does an awesome job of upscaling the Wii. My one cousin said he noticed some slight blurring in the upscaled signal but l couldn't notice it.

Now two of the big issues people (can sometimes) have about this TV are purple haze and clouding. Purple haze is when you see a slight purple colored haze over your blacks. l did some basic tests on my set and didn't seem to have any purple haze (most times people don't have this issue). The other issue people have is clouding or more specifically when light behind the screen bleeds through creating a clouding effect on parts of the screen. (Most common around edges but it can move towards the center) l can say that my set has hardly any clouding if any at all.

This two issues can scare some people to a point that they may decide against this set. Well l can say do not be one of these people, because this TV is amazing and you'd be hard pressed to find a better series of TVs (Samsung's 9 series would really be the only thing better than the 6 series.)

l can say that the remote and the on screen menus are easy to use / navigate. l've had no issues with this TV so far. l've even hooked my PC up to this TV. l use this hook up mainly for games and emulation.

l've spent many hours doing research on this TV and am very pleased. l would recommend this TV to anyone. lf you have any doubts or need further info beyond this review you can either contact me or go to AVSForum.com

Basically, (for those that want the short version)

PR0S:
+Amazing PQ on all sources.
+Easy to navigate remote and 0SD
+Great bang for your buck
+Minimal if any at all off angle viewing issues
+Minimal if any at all clouding / purple haze (There is ways to control these two, but if they are really bad you could probably just send this TV back for a new one)
+Extreme happiness and amazement, as in this TV will blow you away.

C0NS:
-The TV may take a few seconds longer then normal to turn on

Again if you need a good place to get good advice l recommend AVSForum.com and although Amazon may say l'm not technically an owner of this product, well l am, it's just that l ordered it under my dad's account.

Well now that l've added my two cents on this TV l am going to enjoy it some more.

Tech N0TE: For those interested l have a(n)...

Sony 8Ogb PS3 (the old one with PS2 BC, SACD Support, 4 USBs, and Media Card support)
0nkyo TX-SR6O6 (amazing receiver for the price)
Nintendo Wii
Basic cable from Comcast with locals in HD
Creative SR75O 7.1 7OO Watt surround system. (This system rocks for now, but l may upgrade next summer)

This is all for now!

Superlatives abound when describing Krzysztof Kieslowski's The Decalogue, a series of 10 one-hour dramas originally made for Polish TV between 1988 and 1989 and seen throughout the world in film festivals and cinematheque and museum programs. Though each episode is inspired by one of the Ten Commandments of the Bible, these are not Sunday school fables illustrating some simplistic moral lesson--the connections to the individual commandments are not always obvious and are often downright curious--but powerful, profound stories of love and loss, faith and fear. Kieslowski explores ordinary people flailing through inner torments, hard decisions, and shattering revelations, grounding his stories in the faces of their deeply human characters.

Each episode is self-contained, from "Decalogue I" ("I Am the Lord Thy God"), the touching story of a boy who starts asking the hard questions of life from his rationalist father and religious aunt, to "Decalogue X" ("Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbor's Goods"), a comic tale of estranged brothers who bond through a winding ordeal involving their father's priceless stamp collection. There are stories of tragedy and triumph, both expansive and intimate, some profoundly moving and others delicately shaded--but all are warmed by Kieslowski's sympathetic direction and his eye for resonant, fragile imagery. Initially drawn together by location--the series is set in a dreary Warsaw apartment complex--a web of associations forms as characters pass through other stories, sometimes only briefly, and themes reverberate through the series. The Decalogue is ultimately a personal spiritual investigation into the soul of man, a work of quiet attention and deep emotion marked by astounding images and vivid characters. Each volume is also available individually on VHS. --Sean Axmaker

On their debut album, 1999's Something About Airplanes, Death Cab for Cutie proved there's a reason why Northwest music critics continue to sing their praises. The foursome combined the emo sounds of Modest Mouse and 764-Hero with an inventive, and often sly, sentimentality. It worked wonders, but still sounded a little too lo-fi. Luckily, on We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes the group has figured out all the production nuances that flawed that auspicious debut. The opening "Title Track" begins by sounding both crappy and shallow, but the band is merely pulling your leg; two minutes later, the tune expands into a gorgeous, well-produced masterpiece. The album never looks back. Ben Gibbard's songwriting continues to evolve--"Company Calls" segues into, what else, the slower "Company Calls Epilogue"--while the simple lyrics of "For What Reason" and "405" tell infectious stories that demand repeated listenings. Proof positive the Northwest is still churning out great music. --Jason Verlinde

The first Black Box Recorder album, 1998's England Made Me, was originally conceived by Auteurs and Baader Meinhof frontman Luke Haines as a typically baleful response to the cultural and political hysteria--respectively, Britpop and Tony Blair--then gripping Britain. Recorded with the help of former Jesus & Mary Chain drummer John Moore and singer Sarah Nixey, it did for Britpop roughly what the film Carrie did for the senior prom. The Facts of Life, the follow-up, maintains the withering glare but fixes it this time on the personal. The songs here obsess with unnerving clarity and mordant wit on the banal, cruel details of human relationships and are narrated perfectly by Nixey. Where her perfectly English-accented whisper infused England Made Me with the air of a bored aristocrat finding contemptuous amusement in the misery of others, on The Facts of Life she has located an edge of taunting viciousness all the more diabolical for being so understated. The tunes, as ever, are sweet and insidious, perhaps best thought of as Saint Etienne turned feral. Highlights on an album full of them are "English Motorway" and "The Art of Driving"--BBR triumphantly reclaiming the American rock & roll prerogative of the road song for their damp, claustrophobic homeland. The Facts of Life is a masterpiece. --Andrew Mueller
