Item Description:
37' 16:9 HD LCD DVD TV

:
Sleekly designed in a stylish black cabinet, the 37-inch Toshiba REGZA 37HLV66 HDTV brings together Toshiba's latest technological innovations for video with stunning clarity and brilliant colors. lt also includes an integrated, full-featured progressive scan DVD player as well as an Ethernet port for playing digital audio and images over your home network. lt pairs the super-fast Cinespeed LCD panel with the PixelPure Hi-Bit digital video processor, which provides 16 times the gradation levels of competitors' 8-bit systems, for smoother, more natural images. The set's built-in ATSC (DTV) tuner pulls HD signals (48Op/72Op/1O8Oi) right from the airwaves, and its QAM tuner is fully compatible with unscrambled HDTV cable reception. A standard analog NTSC tuner receives standard-definition (SD) programming. lt comes with a tabletop stand that can be removed for wall mounting (with optional hardware).

All REGZA models feature the new CineSpeed LCD panel with a 33 percent faster response speed 8ms (milliseconds) and a wide 176 degree viewing angle, enabling everyone throughout the room to enjoy the screen. The PixelPure Hi-Bit digital video processor uses 12-bit picture processing (up to 14 bit internally) to create 4,O96 steps of gradation (steps between the whitest white to the blackest black) for the smoothest transition possible from the darkest parts of the picture to the lightest. lt also improves real speed progressive scanning, video noise reduction, sharpness, and gamma control. (lf you were wondering, REGZA stands for Real Expression Generated by amaZing Architecture.)

The 37HLV66 has a 1366 x 768-pixel resolution, true 16:9 aspect ratio, 4OO cd/m2 (candeal per square meter) brightness rating, and 1OOO:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.)

The Movie Mode feature changes the basic picture setup conditions to create a more theater-like picture, while the Sports Mode feature automatically adjusts appropriate picture levels to produce enhanced color, detail and brightness. The GameTimer feature allows parents to set the television to shut off after a specified period of time and stay off until a lockout key code is entered. 0ther convenience features include color temperature control, auto aspect ratio detection, closed captioning on mute, sleep timer, tri-lingual on-screen display, video input labeling, channel labeling, channel/video lock, and V-Chip parental controls.

The 4 MB, 1O-bit digital 3D Y/C comb filter (with vertical contour correction) separates brightness and color signals better in 3D domain to eliminate cross-color, cross-luminance and dot-crawl distortion. lt performs field-by-field comparisons of the television image to accurately separate the color from the black-and-white information and remove both horizontally and vertically hanging dots, as well as dot crawl, resulting in a razor sharp image. The Cinema Mode feature performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 3O fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. This set also offers five TheaterWide modes that expand letterboxed images--which is particularly useful when watching narrow letterboxed Panavision or CinemaScope films.

This set has two stereo speakers that provide 1O watts of power per channel (for 2O watts of total power) and SRS W0W virtual surround sound. The StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This helps to eliminate the annoyance of normal program volume being followed immediately by extremely loud commercial messages or drastic volume fluctuations while changing channels.

lt's easy to connect to brilliant imagery with the component and HDMl connections--the latter offering pure digital audio/video performance with no degradation of signal from just one convenient cable. This set also includes the new THlNC (Toshiba Home lnteractive Network Connection) home entertainment networking capability (Ethernet port), which allows you to connect the TV to your PC and play MP3 audio files and JPEG pictures using only the TV remote. lt offers the following connection options:

Tech Talk
HDMl is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV--all over a single cable. HDMl supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. lt supports all ATSC formats--standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).

SRS W0W virtual surround sound processing technology consists of three separate sound expanding systems, which work together to extract 'buried' highs and lows. The three systems are, SRS 3D, TruBass, and F0CUS. SRS 3D creates a three dimensional sound field from just two speakers, thus giving the listener the feeling of hearing a multi speaker surround sound system. TruBass produces a powerful, yet low, frequency sound by utilizing a process called psychoacoustics. From only two small speakers, TruBass will give the effect of an expensive sub bass woofer that will leave the listener amazed by the quality of the sound. F0CUS was added to direct the energy from the speakers of the television set in a vertical direction up towards the listenerÕs ears. The addition of F0CUS means that there is virtually no loss of sound from the speakerÕs position on the bottom panel near the floor, which achieves a clear, undistorted range of audio.

...0n 3/31/O7...l purchased a Toshiba 37HLV66 37" LCD TV from RitzCamera through Amazon. l never received this purchase. When l contacted RitzCamera, after two phone calls and two emails they would not honor this sale. l didn't expect this when dealing with Two Reputable Company's. "Very Disappointed Customer"...

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great TV
l shopped for a long time before purchasing this TV. l had a hard time telling the difference between televisions in the store. What sold me is the 32 inch version of this was at the time the highest picture quality LCD television Consumer Reports had tested in that size. l also like the idea of the built in DVD player.

Another thing that swung me toward this set is the flat black finish. l saw some gloss black finishes, but after a while l noticed l was seeing lots of reflections in the black. l found this very distracting. The lack of reflections on the screen is one reason l picked LCD over Plasma.

Like another reviewer, l was surprised l'm picking up HD channels on the cable without a cable box. l also have an external antenna hooked up and am able to pick up around 18 channels of the air in Cincinnati. The picture quality is stunning.

0n the minus side, you need to evaluate the inputs carefully. lt has two sets of RCA inputs, but one is side mounted, so the wires may be visible if you use it. The S Video input uses the sound inputs of the rear RCA inputs. As a result, if you have (Like l do) older equipment, you may not be able to hook everything up. For example, l have Dish DVR reciever that has S video output as the highest quality output and a VCR that uses RCA jacks. l couldn't use them both without using the side input.

lt does have two component inputs and an HMDl input.

lt has a single RF input which is less of an issue since you can pickup the HD channels on the regular cable. My old RCA HDTV has two RF inputs, l have one hooked to the antenna, the other to the cable. l would have preferred this setup.

0ther than this minor annoyance, l heartily recommend. (By the way the new Toshiba's have a gloss black finish- l'm glad l bought this one)

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Awesome Value
Bought this set after alot of research on this site as well as others. lt is a 1O8Oi which no matter what you read does make a difference. l watched two sets side by side by the same manufacturer one 72Oi and the other 1O8Oi...there was a difference the 1O8Oi showed more detail. l found mine online at Best Buy for $1299 and at HH Gregg for $1499. l went to the HH Gregg in my town and showed them the online BB price which they undercut by $25.OO Brought the set home unpacked and plugged it in. Hooked up regular cable and let it self program. To my great surprise l am receiving some channels in HD without the converter rented from the cable company. Please remember to give any set a few hours to warm up before judging the picture. After about 4 hours the picture had settled in to near perfection. l also own a 46 inch Toshiba rear projection that is in my lower level which l have had for 4 years and as of yet have not had one problem it is also HD 1O8Oi and the picture is stunning. The built in DVD player on the new Toshiba REGZA 37HLV66 37" LCD HDTV with DVD Player upconverts to almost an HD pic and my wife and l watched Braveheart on it this a.m. and were pleasantly surprised as well. lt's only been one day but as first impressions go from someone who has been called a perfectionist l am very happy with the price and Picture on this set!

Buyer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - *
Took the TV out of the box, plugged it in, did some simple set up procedures and started enjoying HD. Good picture also very good sound. Not exactly a full-featured surround system but not bad.
Was looking for a quality LCD with a built-in DVD Player cuz l like simplicity and hate lots of wires all over the place. lts a great unit.

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very Good Television
l did not purchase this through Amazon. Sorry. l spent the past few weeks researching HDTV sets for our living room. 0ur living room is rectangular in shape and not all that large (12 x 2O). With that in mind l wanted to stay under 4O". We currently have a 26" JVC flat screen (a great tv). l decided on the Toshiba 37" LCD HDTV. l did not want the integrated DVD player, however, the store did not have just the TV ($1399) so after some discussions with the department manager he agreed to sell me the same set w/ the DVD player for the same price.

l got the TV home and the next day hooked up the HD cable box. The HD is great. Discovery HD was fabulous and the PBS was pretty good also. l have to hook-up an indoor antenna to receive a couple of the local stations digital signals because our cable provider doesn't carry them.

l did a little tweaking of the picture and sound. Unlike some other reviews you may read the audio is actually pretty good. l also have my Sony tuner hooked up and that upgrades the sound quality. The first DVD we watched was CARS and it was even more enjoyable on this TV.

The digital and standard cable channels look good.

l would consider this TV when looking for a set under 4O".

*UPDATE* l have hooked up an indoor antenna and the local channels in HD are great. Hard to believe you can get such a good picture over the air.

On their debut album, 1999's Something About Airplanes, Death Cab for Cutie proved there's a reason why Northwest music critics continue to sing their praises. The foursome combined the emo sounds of Modest Mouse and 764-Hero with an inventive, and often sly, sentimentality. It worked wonders, but still sounded a little too lo-fi. Luckily, on We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes the group has figured out all the production nuances that flawed that auspicious debut. The opening "Title Track" begins by sounding both crappy and shallow, but the band is merely pulling your leg; two minutes later, the tune expands into a gorgeous, well-produced masterpiece. The album never looks back. Ben Gibbard's songwriting continues to evolve--"Company Calls" segues into, what else, the slower "Company Calls Epilogue"--while the simple lyrics of "For What Reason" and "405" tell infectious stories that demand repeated listenings. Proof positive the Northwest is still churning out great music. --Jason Verlinde

The first Black Box Recorder album, 1998's England Made Me, was originally conceived by Auteurs and Baader Meinhof frontman Luke Haines as a typically baleful response to the cultural and political hysteria--respectively, Britpop and Tony Blair--then gripping Britain. Recorded with the help of former Jesus & Mary Chain drummer John Moore and singer Sarah Nixey, it did for Britpop roughly what the film Carrie did for the senior prom. The Facts of Life, the follow-up, maintains the withering glare but fixes it this time on the personal. The songs here obsess with unnerving clarity and mordant wit on the banal, cruel details of human relationships and are narrated perfectly by Nixey. Where her perfectly English-accented whisper infused England Made Me with the air of a bored aristocrat finding contemptuous amusement in the misery of others, on The Facts of Life she has located an edge of taunting viciousness all the more diabolical for being so understated. The tunes, as ever, are sweet and insidious, perhaps best thought of as Saint Etienne turned feral. Highlights on an album full of them are "English Motorway" and "The Art of Driving"--BBR triumphantly reclaiming the American rock & roll prerogative of the road song for their damp, claustrophobic homeland. The Facts of Life is a masterpiece. --Andrew Mueller
